About us

Uganda Martyrs Day Care, Nursery and Primary School - Katwe

Like the old analogy of the mustard seed, Uganda Martyrs Day Care, Nursery and Primary School - Katwe (UMAKA) started in very humble circumstances in 1991, as a Nursery school, with only two teachers. Uganda Martyrs Nursery and Primary School Katwe (UMAKA)was formed as a calculated intervention to put together a model school which takes pupils’ excellent academic performance as seriously as growth and development in moral values and principles.

Subsequent to recognizing the exceptional and unique combination of good academic performance and through moral upbringing, in the Nursery Section, parents unanimously encouraged the promoters to begin a Primary Section sooner rather than later, to avoid sending the pupils who had completed nursery level to other schools. The seven - year primary section therefore started in 1994 with only 27 pupils.
